Daleville to near Charlottesville

Miles and Phoenix Rising.

Pigpen taking a snooze.

First encounter with the parkway on the trail.

At milepost 97 apparently.

Trail magic hotdogs from a family cookout at a swimming hole. Awesome.

What can I say except that Mark Cline is my new hero.

Morning at the hotel.

My friend Julie told me these are Indian Pipes, and they live off of the roots of trees. They're plants, but they have no chlorophyll.

Montebello for package pickup.

Spy Rock.

Miles and Tarzan reunion.

Only a couple of things to identify this time. The black and white moth is one of the Tiger Moths ... probably a Virgin Tiger Moth (that is its name ... not necessarily its reproductive condition). Julie is right, of course, about the Indian Pipes. Closely related to azaleas and rhododendron, interestingly enough.

Ryan,

With a lot of effort, your Mother posted a note for you. However, it accidentally got posted after the May 9 blog! She has expended all her technology-energy for the day (maybe the whole week?), so it will remain on May 9. It has Jan-Erik's new phone number. He is trying to work out a contact with you. BTW, the note is there only because we are having trouble getting through to your email box.

More later,
Dad

Hey Ryan,

If you have the time, I'd love to see your flan recipe. I'm thinking that it may come in handy on hut trips.

As always, I enjoy reading your postings. Thanks for sharing them.
