Charlottesville to Dick's Dome Shelter

Julie and Chewie at the farm she lives on.

Mmm. Toast.

--->Miles and Rocky reunited!

Don't Panic, Wing It, and Union Break.

Today we are joined by my friend Jan. He lives in my hometown, Harrisonburg, VA, now.

Turkey Vultures. Dad, are the ones with gray heads immature?

Immature Turkey Vultures do have gray heads but it is probably a little early to have immatures flying around yet. At any rate in your second picture you will notice that the outer wing feathers on these guys are white ... which is a good field mark for Black Vultures. We have two species of vultures around here: Turkey and Black. Black Vultures are a little smaller, flap their wings more often and quicker, have short tails, and six white outer primaries.

Beautiful red mushrooms but I have no idea what to call them.

Hope your cousins can find you.

More later,
Dad

Hi Ryan! We're sorry we missed you on our way through H'burg. You are hiking so fast that we couldn't get ourselves to consider a 6-8 roundtrip extra car ride+hike. Maybe....we'll be in Maine for a wedding on Sept 12--you gonna be there around then? It's Matthew and Dante, so I'm sure they'd invite you to crash the party if you're around....

Anyhow, we had a great trip to Canada and are successfully home. Sounds like you are still having a good time hiking and meeting new friends all the time. We are sending you some pics of Ben so you don't miss how cute he has become in the last 2 months. Love you a lot, and take care!

I love the blog... I always look forward to catching up. The big problem is when you haven't posted in a while, we start to worry! Where are you!?!
