Hooray, Moose for my birthday! I'm so glad you did get a hold of me eventually--it was nice to hear your voice, and I hope you didn't get trapped in that storm. Man, this does look like breathtaking hiking that you're into these days. Glad you appreciated the Thrills, too. Knew you would.
When we're in Maine, I think you'll be somewhere between 1 1/2 and 3 hours away from us, which I think would be workable for a day trip, I think. We'll be in Fayette, about 1/2 hour west of Augusta, toward Livermore Falls. Hopefully we'll see you soon!

I too am extremely pleased with the Thrills pictures. You're exactly the right audience for that gum. Now _that_ is high technical!

Not your first 5000+' peak, Ryan. You hiked to the top of Mt. Mitchell didn't you? And you were on Clingman's Dome? Both of those are over 6000' and both are higher than Mt. Washington or any of the White Mt. peaks. Mt. Washington is the 6th highest and Mitchell and Clingman's Dome are #1 and #2. Mt. Katahdin is #28 and Mt. Lafayette is # 29. All the others in the top 30 are in NC, TN, WV, and VA. I'll grant you that the White Mt. peaks are more impressive.

Love,
Dad

Ah, I remember those mountains! Your photos definitely bring back memories. Your descriptors are all quite accurate: striking, imposing, breathtaking... I'd love to come join you again, but it seems unlikely.

Dude, you are flying! I can't believe you're in the Whites already! Those are some serious rocky climbs. I guess this is why hiking S-N makes sense... you save some of the most rugged and wild terrain for last. Gives you the thrill to keep hauling.

I'm not sure how I came across your blog, but I was excited to see your shots of the moose. I've actually worked in the AMC Huts for several seasons, but this past spring (Feb. - May ('09) I was the caretaker at Lonesome Lake Hut and the moose's name is actually Hank... That's what I decided to call him anyway! He charged me on 3 separate occasions which means he's an adolescent and not afraid of people. This past summer I worked at Greenleaf Hut. You should have dropped down off of Franconia Ridge to do a work-for-stay! We were, by far, the most thru-hiker - friendly hut in the system. Anyway, I've really enjoyed reading you're blog.
